AMES, IA – We want to extend a warm welcome to the newest member of the GoServ Global family! As some of you remember, Paul van Gorkom has served as the Executive Director with GoServ Global for what will be nine years in March after moving to Eagle Grove, IA, from Chicago, IL. “My time at GoServ Global has been some of the best years of my life. I couldn’t have scripted a better ending to my career than to spend it with a faith-based organization that humbly seeks God’s will and gives God all the glory as together we ‘Share God’s Love By Delivering Hope Globally’. I have witnessed some incredible movements of God and answers to prayer these past 9 years It has been exciting to work in a job at an organization that God is so involved with.” We’ve seen the ministry grow under his stewardship and are grateful for his time and talents! He will be retiring from his role as Executive Director at the end of March this year, 2024.
In his stead, we are excited to bring on Mark Henderson of Ames, IA. Mark Henderson has served Christ Community Church in Ames for nearly 16 years, most recently in the role of Executive Pastor. Mark grew up in Ida Grove, Iowa, and graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City in 1997 before he attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He later completed a master’s degree in organizational leadership at Gonzaga in 2019. Mark has been married to Kari for 27 years, and they have 3 adult children who all got married in the last two years. They now have a two-month-old granddaughter with another grand child due in April! He has a ministry lic
ense with the EFCA and has served in various EFCA churches in Iowa since 2000.
Paul van Gorkom comments, “Mark’s experience, education, love for the Lord, and his desire to spread the gospel through GoServ Global make him an excellent choice. He is a great relational leader who you are going to love. I am very comfortable with ‘turning over the reins’ to Mark in the coming month.”
Mark shares his enthusiasm for this opportunity to serve as the next Executive Director at GoServ Global, “As Kari and I prayed about what God had planned for us in this next season of our lives and a potential new ministry opportunity, we were aware of GoServ Global, but had no idea what God was up to or the adventure He was about to call us into. What a privilege to get to use the ministry experience and spiritual gifts that God has blessed us with in a servant-hearted, Christ-centered ministry. This is more than we could have asked for. I hope to serve this ministry well in this new role. Through the relational network of GoServ Global we have met partners, ministry leaders, staff, and board members who are passionate, full of integrity, and committed to the ministry of sharing God’s love by delivering hope globally. Thanks for inviting us to join you in this adventure and we look forward to connecting with more of the GoServ Global family in the coming months.”
