The Importance of Christian Community: Hebrews 10:23-25
“23) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24) and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25) not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:23-25
The writer now stresses the importance of Christian community and perseverance. We can stand firm in our faith because God is faithful, but we also need one another as Christians. God does not intend for us to go it alone.
It is important to encourage one another and stimulate one another to love and good deeds. Our focus should be on building one another up in the faith. We all need someone to lean on.
Verse 25 points out the importance of assembling together as a church. From biblical instruction to corporate worship, the local church is the primary fueling station for our faith. Many of the spiritual gifts are intended to function within the context of the local church. God wants us to assemble together for the purpose of building up one another.
Christianity is designed to work within community. Growth takes place through interaction within the Body of Christ. We all need accountability, instruction, encouragement, shepherding, correction and affirmation.
Corporate worship is a weekly highlight for me personally. I also relish group prayer and intercession. As iron sharpens iron, we need others to help sharpen our walk with God. Do not forsake assembling together with the body of Christ.
