Jesus Christ the Creator: Hebrews 1:2
“2) in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.” Hebrews‬ ‭1:2
Before we leave verse two, we need to capture two more thoughts. First, notice that Gods Son is heir of all things. The next three verses in Hebrews has a striking resemblance to Colossians 1:14-20. As heir, all things in heaven and on earth belong to Him. We fool ourselves when we think we possess anything. We are merely stewards and caretakers. We will one day give an account for all things under our care.
The final phrase in verse 2 is even more profound; “through whom also He made the world.” This specifically attributes the work of creation to the Son. Genesis 1-2 are part of His story. Because He created it, He owns it!
The Bible consistently teaches that the Father planned the creation of the universe, the Son performed the actual work of creation, and the Holy Spirit perfected it. The same pattern is also seen in our salvation as noted in Ephesians 1:3-14.
John 1:1-5 attributes this same work of creation to the Word. So how do we know this is a reference to Jesus Christ? John 1:14 says; “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
One of the distinctions of the Jewish nation is that they have always claimed to worship Creator God. I can only imagine the shock for many who rejected Jesus Christ as Messiah and were then exposed to the book of Hebrews. The whole book is packed with indisputable evidence of the true identity of Jesus Christ.
I look at the book of Hebrews as the greatest Apologetic ever written to the Jewish nation. The book of Hebrews is to the Jewish mindset what the book of Romans is to the Gentile mindset. The verdict of the book of Hebrews is clear: “Israel, prepare to meet thy God!”
