Faith in The Hebrews 11 God: Hebrews 11:32-34
“32) And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33) who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34) quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.” Hebrews 11:32-34
Faith was a common denominator among men and women of God in the Old Testament. They believed in a powerful miracle working God. The list is long and the feats are varied. The work of God was very personalized and very extraordinary.
With the four Gospels and the book of Acts, the manifestations of the power of God increased by multiples. Faith in God was still the medium.
In should be observed that Emmanuel means “God with us” and Pentecost translates to “God in us.” Please underline this in your thinking: “God in His fulness abides with and in His people in greater ways today than in the Old Testament.”
Yet I continually hear Christians say; “God no longer works that way today.” I heard it so often in Bible college I thought my professors were quoting a Bible verse. But I have been a Christian since 1973 and studied my Bible daily and still have not found anything close to that phrase in the Bible. I long ago concluded that it is nothing less than an empty excuse from faithless theologians.
I choose to side with the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5. I want my faith to be anchored in the power of God rather than the wisdom of men. I now shun faith empty theologians.
These verses help expose the weakness of the modern church. We have become theological agnostics. Naturalism has become our new god. In many churches, studying the Bible is a mere intellectual exercise. It is not a pathway into the presence of the Almighty.
I see the Bible consistently present an exceeding abundant above and beyond God Who consistently works in and through His people in extraordinary ways. I see the Hebrews 11 God throughout the Bible. Anything short of this view of God is biblical heresy. It is an assault on the character and nature of God.
This text in the book of Hebrews is not concerned about the size of your faith, it is focused on the size of your God. Faith is proportional to your view of God.
Unfortunately, many Christians have more faith in self than in God. What is the problem? We have displaced God with humanism. The problem is not with God… the problem is with us! We have exchanged the truth of God for a lie.
