The Spillover Effect: Proverbs 11:11
“11) By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.” Proverbs 11:11
It is true, because God’s blessings and favor surround the upright, it is good to be in close proximity to them. God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah if only ten righteous had been found there. Take a moment and read Psalm 5:12.
That principle still holds true today. Some wonder why God is so patient with so many wicked cities, states and countries? The answer relates to the righteous who are in that place.
This was true for the widows and the Shunammite woman who cared for both Elijah and Elisha. God blessed them because of their proximity and care to these two righteous men.
The opposite is also true. When God is disciplining someone, keep your distance. All who were in the boat with Jonah endured his storm until they threw him into the sea. Not even the whale could stomach him very long!
This principle is also why it is so wise to personally support a few godly missionaries and Christan ministries from your personal finances. God will make all grace abound in your life as a spillover effect.
If you doubt me, do a study of 2 Corinthians 8-9. Paul understood this concept. We have made supporting others in ministry part of our core value as a couple. We invite the spillover effect.
The spillover effect comes in many ways. It can bless an entire city! Live in such a way as to be a blessing to your family, town and city.
