Tanzania Report and Upcoming Events
Amazing things happened on my trip to Tanzania July 6-21. The first two weeks of the scheduled trip were delayed until September because of lack of funds. I now see that as providential.
A small team left Minneapolis July 6th and joined a team of five already in Tanzania.
On July 9-10, we conducted a two day medical camp. My job was to help maximize efforts to make the medical outreach more evangelistic than previously. Our goal was to present the gospel to as many people as possible and hand out Swahili New Testaments. This was a new twist for the medical outreach.
They had picked a remote Maasai village about 2 1/2 hours from the STEMM center. An advance team had set up tents and organized the small medical building to host the event. Word had spread quickly in the area.
Our system was simple. With the help of local pastors, we did a short gospel presentation to groups of 20-50 as they arrived and were seated in tents waiting to be processed for medical help. Listening to the gospel presentation was voluntary. Many opted to hear the gospel.
The gospel was presented to around 800 people the first day. Many were already Christians, many others accepted Jesus for the first time!
Then they were directed to the staging area where they were processed and signed in for medical stations. Blood pressure was taken and vitals assessed to decide the best course of medical help.
As they waited for medical treatment, those who wanted could go to another tent for prayer, receive a New Testament and sign up for an in-house gospel visit by a local pastor. The second day was slower with another 300 or more coming for treatment.
Altogether, right at 400 signed up for an in-home gospel contact. Local pastors who joined the effort will lead the follow-up effort. Around 500 New Testament Bibles with the Psalms were handed out to those who wanted them from the medical camp.
As we were getting ready to close down the final day, the village public school day ended. Over 300 students ran to our location seeking Bibles. Less than 5% of Maasai families have any reading materials in the home or a Bible. If they were old enough to read, we gave them a Bible. We lost count, but nearly 300 more Bibles were handed out.
During a feedback session, one local pastor suggested including an evening evangelistic crusade for those who did not need medical help. We plan to incorporate that idea in the future. This became one of the most fruitful evangelism events I have participated in for a long time. The system can be duplicated in many places.
Then Sunday morning, I preached in a Vineyard Church in the morning and started the first Freedom Quest Workshop at the church in the afternoon. As it gained momentum over the next two days, more and more people tricked in because of word of mouth. The last day, there were around 50 people including 18 local pastors. That was amazing. I received many invitations for future events of several kinds.
With one day of rest, we started the second Freedom Quest Workshop targeted for pastors at the STEMM center. God worked in powerful ways among the sixty pastors. There was much repenting of sin, praise and worship, bonding between pastors, vital equipping and joint prayer for Tanzania. It was amazing.

August 2: Service on the Lawn, East Chain Evangelical Free Church in southern Minnesota.
August 7-14: Haiti Bible Conference. I am traveling to Haiti for our annual Bible Conference at the GoServ Global Consolation Center. We expect over 2,500 people at the various events. Momentum has been building the past seven years and the flames of revival are beginning to burn in southern Haiti. It is so exciting! We will be feeding and housing many people. Costs are soaring because of insane inflation. We have a budget of around $30,000 for this one week event. If God puts this on your heart, please help financially.

August 30: Oxlip EFCA, Minnesota
September 10-12: Freedom Quest Workshop, Sumner, Iowa
September 14-29: Back to Tanzania
My time in Tanzania concluded with a meeting with the YWAM leader representing the two pastors conferences we had to postpone. He has been traveling extensively and promoting the events. They are being rescheduled for September. He said the excitement is huge in the two target locations.
Unlike the previous workshops, we are renting modest housing and lodging facilities for each of these workshops. We are reluctantly cutting off registration at 200 pastors and Christian workers for each of the four day conferences. He said interest is very high, but we are being budget-conscious.
Most of the pastors will come from a Maasai background. Many will walk many miles and even a few days to get to the event. Some will come by bus or hitch a motorcycle ride.
Because we provide some travel help, food, and lodging for these two events, it is more costly. We are budgeting $10 a day for each pastor. (That’s 220 people at each event including staff.)
We are also budgeting airfare for myself and one helper from the United States. We also need to budget the transportation for the many hours of travel between the two events for the team of workers and translators. The total budget is right at $35,000 for the two weeks. The regional impact will be huge.
This is going to be a grueling but very fruitful trip. We need your help to provide one or two traveling companions from the United States, and we would like you to consider sponsoring local Maasai pastors. The cost is $50 each and it would be awesome if some very generous, Spirit-led donors could sponsor groups of five to thirty of these pastors. God is making an amazing awesome move in Tanzania!
Committed Prayer Warriors: We are going into the heart of witchcraft and spiritism in remote Tanzania. These pastors have never been trained in spiritual warfare. The workshop also sets forth biblical principles for regional revival and awakening. I expect this trip will spark a mighty movement of God in Tanzania that will have a long term impact.
