Prolonging Your Life: Proverbs 10:27
“27) The fear of the Lord prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.” Proverbs 10:27
Billions of dollars are spent every year on health crazes. The fads range from new exercise techniques, food supplements and the endless search for superfoods that can extend life to different forms of meditation and self actualization.
This verse from the book of Proverbs should be a news flash; “The fear of the Lord prolongs life.” This literally means “adds days and years.”
This is not a mystery. Godly living is healthy living on every level. It is good for the body, the soul and the spirit. It lends to physical health, mental health, relational health, financial health and spiritual health.
Solomon was not talking about being religious. He was talking about reverence for God to the point of following His ways in every area of your life. By doing so, you will automatically avoid all kinds of health hazards.
By contrast, the verse ends by saying; “The years of the wicked will be shortened.” Sin and Satan take a heavy toll on people.
John 10:10 says; “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” The contrast now comes into focus. Solomon got it right.
