Take Control of Your Life by taking Control of your Words: Proverbs 10:10-11
“10) He who winks the eye causes trouble, And a babbling fool will be ruined. 11) The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” Proverbs 10:10-11
The cultural meaning of the winking of the eye in the days of Salomon is questionable. In some cultures it was used to cover a lie or indicate deceit or bad intentions. The words of the mouth were voided by the wink of the eye.
This was also the problem with the babbling fool. They were like some politicians, they could give a speech that sounded good but said nothing. They talk in circles.
The futility of both kinds of communications is exposed in the next verse. “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life.” Words have a way of creating your reality. They are powerful.
God spoke the universe into existence. in John 1:1-2 and 1:14 Jesus is called “the Word.” The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Words are powerful. They can impart life or they can bring death. They can build up or they can tear down. They can convey love, hope and faith; or they can express anger, despair and fear.
Jesus didn’t pray for people to get healed, He spoke or commanded healing. Many people speak themselves into sickness instead of health. Your body follows your worlds.
I will not take this too far in this post, but if you want to steer your life in a positive way, take control of your thought and words. Use your speech to become a righteous fountain of life rather than a putrid sewer of death.
I can tell your true faith level by listening for a few minutes to the way you speak. There are many Christians whose words amount to fear, despair and death rather than faith, hope and life.
