Leaving a Legacy: Proverbs 10:7
“The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot.” Proverbs 10:7
How do you want to be remembered? What kind of legacy do you want to leave? The righteous leave good memories. History honors them. The memory of the righteous is blessed.
I am a little shy to mention names, but Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, Conwall Larson and leadership trainer John Maxwell stand out as good names. I could mention many more.
By contrast, there are some wicked names that evoke shame and even horror. Some recent history names could include men like Joseph Stalin, Adolph Hitler and Karl Marx. These were directly responsible for the deaths of millions on people. Again, I could mention many more.
I know these are extreme examples in both categories. However, there are many more names on local levels that will never make world history books, but they left a huge impact of their families and communities. It is true on both sides of the list.
Solomons point is well taken. The righteous and the wicked both leave a mark. Some for good and some for evil.
So here is a little exercise for you; take a moment and think a some good and bad people in your life. Who has been a blessing ? How can you be like them? Who has caused hurt or pain? How can you avoid being like them?
