A Cord of Three Strands: Proverbs 10:3-5
“3) The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, But He will reject the craving of the wicked. 4) Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. 5) He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.” Proverbs 10:3-5
These three verses fit nicely together. Righteousness, diligence and good time management are a cord of three strands that is very strong.
It is when these three qualities come together that God promises to bless and provide. From verses like this was born the idea of a good Christian work ethic. It is highly valued in the market place.
This combination is hard to find today. The workplace is filled with dishonest, lazy and shortsighted people. These qualities lead to poverty and the notion of entitlements.
The Bible consistently rewards people according to good character, hard work and prudence to prepare for the future. Expect to see these themes appear again and again over the next several chapters of the book of Proverbs.
