Financial Education 101: Proverbs 10:2
“2) Ill-gotten gains do not profit, But righteousness delivers from death.” Proverbs 10:2
Solomon deals with many themes in the next several chapters of short contrasts. Foremost among them are financial principles and a good work ethic.
The book of Proverbs makes the case that good character is worth more than wealth or riches. Many people sacrifice their character on the altar of wealth and success. In the long run, they loose everything.
So it is with ill gotten gains. Money obtained by fraud, gambling, corruption, drug dealing, pornography distribution, human trafficking, deception, wrongful billing and a host of other financial scams do not profit.
Financial exploitation twists character. It is better to be poor and have integrity than be rich and have a wicked and calloused heart.
Many of these crooked scams come with a huge danger factor. The guilt and self condemnation from fraud degrades your health, places you in bad company, often invited legal action against you and other corrupt people have been known to shoot back. “But righteousness delivers from death.”
It is much better to gain wealth Gods way and be righteous than chase after ill-gotten gains. The blessings of God have staying power, leaves a family legacy and can be used by God for great good around the world.
