Faith, Science and the Bible: Proverbs 8:26-31
“26) While He had not yet made the earth and the fields, Nor the first dust of the world. 27) When He established the heavens, I was there, When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep, 28) When He made firm the skies above, When the springs of the deep became fixed, 29) When He set for the sea its boundary So that the water would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth; 30) Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, 31) Rejoicing in the world, His earth, And having my delight in the sons of men.” Proverbs 8:26-31
I want to speak for a moment on faith, science and the Bible. Some see a conflict between them. I never have.
Because I believe is an all wise Creator, I recognize that He has put order, design and beauty in everything He created. The Laws of Physics are only possible because of the absolute immutability of God. He is the Law maker and the Law giver and that includes the laws of physics. They are rooted in His nature.
The Bible is not a science book, but it invites mankind to get to know the Creator by studying what He created. (See Romans 1:19-20) Every branch of science points to the existence, consistency and majesty of God.
I am not an astronomer, but I am fascinated by astronomy. I am not a physicists, but I enjoy physics. I am not a biologist, but I have great reverence for life, DNA and microbiology. I am not a chemist, but I find chemistry to be foundational to physical reality.
I am also not a geologist, but I am deeply impressed with the rotation of the earth, its orbit around the sun, four seasons, 24 time zones and the precision of the solar clock. I have traveled the world and ministered in many different time zones.
All of this combined and much more points to the omniscience and omnipotence of the Creator. As Solomon said, “by wisdom He founded the earth.”
I have no time for flat earth psychobabble, pseudo science or misconstrued theology. This whole movement makes a mockery of God, Christianity, science and the Bible. It greatly hinders the spread of the gospel. It is not a biblical doctrine!
It was the secular view in the Middle Ages that was disproven by Christan scholars and scientists. Many gave their lives defending biblical truth against this fallacy.
