Set a Straight Path: Proverbs 4:25-27
“25) Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. 26) Watch the path of your feet And all your ways will be established. 27) Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:25-27
The shortest route between any two points is a straight line. The same is true for reaching goals in life, maintaining a clear conscience, developing good character and living pleasing to God.
Beware of distractions that pull you off course. There are many things in life that will catch your eyes, twist your thoughts and damage your heart and soul.
It is imperative to know who you are, have well defined convictions and make pleasing God and serving others high priorities in your life. They represent the center rings of the target for abundant life. Fix your eyes on them.
The New Testament gives the same advice. 1 John 2:15-17 says; “15) Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17) The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” Notice how sin wants to capture your eyes.
According to these three verses, there are three basic distractions in life. They are: 1) the passion sins, 2) the possession sins and 3) the position sins.
Each can become a costly detour. They consume your time, energy, emotions and resources. They want to take control of your life. They want to squeeze God and His Word out of your life.
The best way to avoid these traps is by fixing your eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of faith. (See Hebrews 12:1-2) Invite Jesus and the Holy Spirit to help set your “Abundant Life GPS System.” ( John 10:10)
That may sound simplistic, but Gods ways are the absolute best for your life. They will impart a surpassing value the world cannot know or embrace. (Read Paul’s testimony in Philippians 3:4-11)
If you’re heading down a wrong path in life, be honest and courageous with yourself. Take a personal inventory. If you need to repent, do it! Set a new direction in your life and make Jesus your Lord. It’s amazing how quickly He can turn things around and give you a new life.
