The Crown of Wisdom and Understanding: Proverbs 4:5-9
“5) Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. 6) Do not forsake her, and she will guard you; Love her, and she will watch over you. 7) The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding. 8) Prize her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. 9) She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty.”” Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭9‬ ‭
So did Solomon listen to the advice of his parents? Did the acquiring of wisdom and understanding become a priority for him?
1 Kings 3:4-14 records the beginning of the reign of Solomon. God appeared to him at night and said; “Ask what you wish me to give you.”
Without hesitation, Solomon asked for a wise and discerning heart. God granted his request. They put on his head a crown of beauty and grace.
I know in his older years Solomon turned away from God. This came about because of sin and compromise in marrying many foreign wives. They turned his heart from God.
But he started well. In fact, no king in Judah or Israel surpassed him in glory, honor, wealth, times of total peace in the kingdom and accomplishments of building the temple and many cities. He had no wars. God caused all the surrounding nations to be at peace with him.
The blessings of wisdom are offered to all who seek wisdom and understanding. This early pursuit of Solomon is worth following!
