The First Big Benefit of Wisdom:
“12) To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things; 13) From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; 14) Who delight in doing evil And rejoice in the perversity of evil; 15) Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways;” Proverbs 2:12-15
Solomon now starts laying out the benefits of gaining wisdom and understanding. The first big benefit is that they will deliver you from evil and devious men.
This is huge. Prevention is so much better than rehabilitation. Wisdom will keep you far from their path and away from their influence.
Wisdom and foolishness do not keep company with one another. Neither do righteousness and wickedness. They are like oil and water; they do not mix.
Sadly, there are evil and perverse men in the world. They exploit, hurt, abuse, defile and steal from others. They claim many victims.
The book of Proverbs offers to impart wisdom, understanding, discernment and common sense. These qualities will help deliver you from the way and reach of evil men.
This feature alone is enough to motivate me to study the book of Proverbs. But as the book unfolds, there are many more benefits to gaining wisdom and knowledge.
Gaining and applying the wisdom found in the book of Proverbs can change people. It helps the foolish become wise, the ignorant become smart, the wicked become righteous, the lazy become diligent, and the poor become prosperous.
The wisdom gained by studying the book of Proverbs becomes a blueprint for true success in life. The change can start at any time. It can happen to any person. It is packed with “Super Foods” for the human soul. The book of Proverbs is God’s recipe for a full and fruitful life.
