The 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti 8 years ago today. Three days after the earthquake, GoServ Global Co-Founder Ken DeYoung answered the call to fly in medical supplies. After 40 trips, Ken met Eddy who was starting a girls orphanage.
This is how GoServ Global got its start – simply to sponsor orphan children. God had much bigger plans!
Soon thereafter GoServ Global met with Sukup Manufacturing who had turned a grain bin into safe housing for those affected by the Haiti earthquake. 60 of these first “Safe T Homes” became the Village of Hope for those displaced by the earthquake.
Today, GoServ Global serves in Haiti, Peru, India, Guatemala, the U.S. and is working to bring the Safe T Homes to Uganda for housing for refugee children.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family, got some deals on Cyber Monday, now would like to share another tradition, #GivingTuesday.
We are blessed to be able to work with a local organization that is making a difference around the world, GoServ Global. By sponsoring a child in Haiti, we not only change the life of that girl, but by giving her a future with hope, she can help bring the change that is needed in her country.
I was at a large chain store last night, grabbed a few small gifts for the grandkids, things that they surely could live without. I also wanted to get a few things for Islande, our girl in Haiti. I left the toy department and picked up things she would appreciate, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, washcloths and soap. I got extras because I have seen her at the orphanage and I know she will probably give her gifts away to the younger girls she helps take care of. She knows what it feels like to have nothing. I love her caring heart.
There are more children that need sponsorship, check it out at goservglobal.org/sponsor-a-child-2/.
There are many ways you can help, pick what works best for you. For us, the best part is visiting Islande in person! —Ambassadors Joel & Linda Zwiefel

We urge you to pray for the final paperwork to be completed TOMORROW (Wednesday, Nov. 8th) in Uganda, so GoServ Global will be able to move forward to send 50 Safe T Homes to be used as a refugee camp for orphan children.
The 1st phase of this project is fully funded & we expect to begin building after the first of the year! The full project will Include a church, school, clinic and orphanage. GoServ Global is working together with International Messengers on the project.
GoServ Global and Service International helped Willie and his three daughters during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Houston. Willie is a Vietnam Veteran, and when we arrived as his house, nothing had been done except a few things had been thrown away. Mold was growing rapidly on his walls and their carpet was still in throughout the house. Even though the house had been flooded with 3 feet of water, he said it was better living there than in the shelters.
Without moving the family out, we delicately removed the carpeting and tore out the drywall 48 1/2 inches high. Next, we cleaned and treated the house for mold. The water and electricity are still on so the family can continue to live there. The house is a much healthier environment now, but we are waiting for the wood to dry before we hang the drywall and help them get back on their feet.

Joe and Sadi, parents of seven children, living in a 3 bedroom flat, were devastated when Hurricane Harvey badly damaged their home. They decided to stay in their home even after the roof was struck by a tree limb causing severe leakage and water damage throughout the home. Damages consisted of a roof collapse, ceilings damaged from water leaks, flooring ruined, water and mold damage, broken windows, damaged electrical wiring and gas lines, siding needed repair, and an unusable back door leaving only one entry and exit to the entire house.
The pastor of the church where we (GoServ Global and Service International) are basing our operation from, asked if we could possibly help this family of nine who had never asked anyone for help.
Joe had worked at a job for which he was on call 24/7, and it took him away from his family more than he could bear. Two years ago he made a decision to leave that job for something that didn’t pay as well, because his family was more important to him than making more money.
Since then things have been hard, but when the storm came, it was more than they could handle. Without insurance or a place to stay, Joe was slowly trying to put his life back together, and that’s when Service International & GoServ Global stepped in to serve this family.
We started by demolishing the back two rooms of the house and rebuilding from scratch. We built a new foundation and went up from there. Now they will have a new kitchen with a place to seat and feed this family of nine, and a new bathroom with a bathtub and double vanity. They have new plumbing and electric, a new roof; we tore off the old one and repaired the holes before laying new shingles. It rained the day after the new roof was on, and they said it was wonderful that they didn’t have to get buckets to catch the water coming in through the ceiling. We haven’t finished yet but we are excited about how far it has come.
Thanks to donations, Service International and GoServ Global has replaced the following:
- Plywood, Flashing, Shingles
- Vinyl Siding, 8 New Windows, Front Door, Back Door, Rebuilt Wood Steps to back door

In addition to regular schooling in Haiti, GoServ Global also offers a “Professional School” that’s held in late afternoon/early evening where older students & community members can learn a trade like sewing, construction, masonry, business, etc.
Profession School started earlier this week – here are a few of the students enrolled!
GoServ Global is partnering with Service International to provide help to the people of Houston following Hurricane Harvey. GoServ Global Domestic Director Dennis Anderson & crew spent yesterday gutting & cleaning two homes that had 3 to 4 feet of water in them.
Earlier this week, the Garner (Iowa) community “Stuffed the Bus” with needed supplies for Hurricane Harvey victims. Several businesses in town collected items, and all the school kids at GHV held various fundraisers that raised a total of $3,437 for hurricane relief!! Huge thanks to GoServ Global Ambassador Deb Schmidt for helping organize the project!
There is still time to help with Hurricane Harvey. You may give at http://goservglobal.org/give/ and choose “Hurricane Harvey” in the dropdown.
